Since activaton, there is massive change in Anu's behaviour. Before implant she does not spontaneously involve in activity. After actvation, she started to look around & search for source of sound.At first, when any sound occured she widen her eyes & stunned for moment, then she look around for sound.
I put her in Playschool.In school her auditory awareness has been increased, she now picks all sounds occurs around her.There she started interacting with other kids by observing & playing with them. At first she just watch what other kids do. Slowly she started to get involve with them. Now she enjoys doing Ring -a - Roses & other songs in school.

The Big Day

After Surgery Anushree was doing fine.Her activation was done on 18th April '08. We all were nervous & praying that everything should go well. We just made Anu comfortable for procedure & for our surprise she cooperated nicely. When Anu heard sound and gave response tears came to my eyes , that was happiest moment of my life. She was given Initial Map. She excepted CI quickly which was a big sigh of relief. After activation she looked at us whenever she heard any sound.

Cochlear Implant Surgery....

For Cochlear Implant surgery, first we have to decide which Company's implant would be appropriate. We met people from all three companies Cochlear,Med-el & Advanced Bionics.Then discussing with Doctor we decided for Advanced Bionics. In February '08 an impedance test was done which resulted that infection was cured and Anushree was ready for surgery. Anushree's all Pre-surgery reports were normal & date was fixed on 18th March 2008.Me & all family members were little nervous on the surgery day. Her surgery was done for 5 hours. She was brought out with huge bandage around her head. We were relived when she started playing in evening on surgery day. She looked weak but doing fine.Next day she was discharged from hospital.(her photograph above was taken when she was discharged)

Planning for Cochlear Implant......

In January 2008 her Doctor , Therapist & Audiologist studied Anushree's performance & audiology report using hearing aid.They concluded that we should go for Cochlear Implant surgery. Doctor explained us about Benefits & risks of Cochlear Implant. I gathered lot of information through internet & met the parents & their kids with CI. At that time I was happy watching those kids with CI interacting like normal child. That encouraged me & my family member for deciding Anushree's Surgery.
Then Doctor told us to do tests such as MRI, Blood report & to give vaccination one month before surgery. When Anu's MRI report came she was diagnosed with Middle ear infection.so we have to wait until her infections was cured.

Hearing with Hearing Aids......

Using Hearing Aids within month Anushree started to vocalize as AAAAA.... . She started to make sound in different pattern. She never took off her Hearing Aids at waking hours.She may have been hearing some sound i.e. through residual hearing. But she was not getting much benefit from hearing aids.She just looks at our faces & try to figure what we are saying. After three months using Hearing Aids, her Doctor advised us for surgery looking at her performance with aids is not upto mark. Then her therapist & audiologists took conditioning audiometry test. The result was to go for surgery.

Detection of Hearing Loss....

We came to know about Anushree's Hearing Loss when she was 8 months old . She use to turn her right ear to hear sound when any loud sound occurs & when we talk to her she just blankly looked at our faces.Then we took her to ENT Doctor who suggested us to do BERA/ABR test at KEM Hospital, Pune last year in september . Anu was detected with Bilateral Profound Hearing Loss , Audiologist told us she has little hearing in right ear but above 90 db. She was fitted with Hearing Aids & her speech therapy sessions were started. There was change in her behaviour & hearing. She accepted Hearing Aids within week.
